Yesterday, Mark LeBlanc , the incoming national president of the National Speakers Association (NSA) , visited Portland, Oregon where he spoke to the NSA Oregon Chapter. Mark gave a brilliant presentation on strategies for a professional speaker interested in growing his or her business.
One tip struck me as particularly creative and relevant to any business person interested in increasing sales through word of mouth. Its simplicity is what make it so easy to implement. The steps? Create a list of the top 25 most important people in your life that can help your business. If you can’t think of 25 people, pick another number – it might be five, ten, or fifteen. Think about people who would be willing to open doors for you. Then, develop a system to stay in touch with these people on a monthly basis – it could be a visit, phone call, card, fax, email. "If you don’t make a conscious effort to stay in touch, even people who support you will forget about you. Staying in touch with the top 25 will do more to grow your business than anything else at an incredibly low cost," Mark said. I would be curious to hear the results from anybody who has tried this technique
